NYFW: P1

We've barely left single-figure centigrades and most fashion-fans are still swathed in their aviator jackets, but NYFW is already looking ahead to next A/W. Only two days in, yet hundreds of outfits have already been noted by editors, journalists and celebrities for new-season supplements and for denting bank balances.

So far, as is usual for A/W, designers have been showing a lot of layers. Knits and scarves in grey graced many catwalks, with Cynthia Rowley introducing pops of blue through masculine neck-scarves. Vertical lines, blocks and silhouettes are dominating runways, the Mad Men influence giving way to an art-deco twenties revival. Still, we retain softness through the use of soft, sheer fabrics and mixed textures (both Siriano and Jason Wu set off their dramatic shapes with sheer sleeves) . Red and blue seem to be the colours du jour, featured by Nicole Miller, Maz Azria and Rag & Bone. But the true connoisseur of colour? Luca Luca, who showcased a incredibly luxurious collection in mustards and maroons. Definitely my new favourite designers. However, Prabal Gurung were hot on their heels with clashing hot pinks and reds piercing through the otherwise monochrome collection.
